About Reins of Life

Faith-Led. Horse-Powered. Heart-Driven.

Reins of Life, LLC was founded on a simple but powerful belief: healing happens when we step outside the noise of daily life and reconnect—with nature, with purpose, and with ourselves. Through the unique and sacred bond between horses and humans, we help individuals develop emotional strength, physical confidence, and a renewed sense of self.

Located in Martin, Georgia, our peaceful, rural setting in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains offers a quiet space for reflection, growth, and transformation. Whether you’re here for therapeutic riding or a personalized equine-assisted learning session, our goal is the same—to walk beside you as you become all you were created to be.

Our Mission

To create space for healing, growth, and hope through equine-assisted experiences, grounded in faith and led with compassion, integrity, and excellence.

Our Vision

We envision a world where horses are not just companions, but partners in personal transformation—and where every individual has access to the tools they need to thrive.

Our Values

Faith First – We trust God’s guidance in every interaction, decision, and life we touch.
Excellence with Integrity – We commit to doing the right thing, the right way, every time by the grace of God.
Hope in Action – We believe in every person’s capacity to grow, heal, and lead a purposeful life.
Gratitude & Generosity – We serve with open hands, thankful for the chance to make a difference.

Our Story

Reins of Life, LLC was founded by a team of equine professionals, educators, and people of faith who saw a need for something different—something deeper. In the rural corners of Northeast Georgia, many youth and families face complex challenges: trauma, instability, anxiety, disability, and disconnection. Traditional resources are limited. But the horses? They were ready.

What began as a vision to help just a few has grown into a full-service equine program supporting individuals from all walks of life. We believe the barn should be a place of peace. The saddle should feel like strength. And every person who visits should walk away with more confidence, clarity, and hope.

Meet the Founders

  • Founder & Co-Director

Cheryl and Steve were foster and contract parents for the State of Georgia for fifteen years, serving mostly teenage girls in their home. As a result of this intensive work, they saw first-hand the shortage of quality intervention programs in this rural area. Reins of Life was born out of Cheryl's dream of combining her love for horses and her love for serving children into a program that would benefit both. Cheryl and Steve are certified equine facilitators in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and received training from O.K. Corral.

  • Co-Founder & Program Director

Kimberley Scully brings a lifelong passion for horses, leadership, and personal transformation to her role at Reins of Life. With a background in Psychology, Business, and Equine Studies from Asbury University, and a Master’s in Executive Leadership from Liberty University, Kimberley has dedicated her life to helping others grow, heal, and connect—both in and out of the saddle.

She is a certified facilitator through both EAGALA and O.K. Corral, a CHA Certified Riding Instructor, and a trained facilitator in Nieylo Ropes Courses and Outdoor Adventures. As a graduate of Pete Ramey’s Natural Hoof Trimming apprenticeship and a student of renowned horsemen like John Lyons, Buck Brannaman, and Ray Hunt, Kimberley brings deep wisdom and hands-on experience to every session.

Guided by the belief that “every horse needs you to meet them where they are,” Kimberley extends that same grace and intuition to the individuals and families she serves. Whether through adaptive riding, horsemanship lessons, or Equine Growth and Learning retreats, she creates opportunities for healing and personal discovery in a peaceful, faith-based setting.

Kimberley currently leads weekend retreats for families with teens, workplace teams, first responders, church groups, and veterans, as well as one-on-one growth and learning sessions. Her programs are rooted in the power of authentic connection and the healing bond between horse and human.

Why We Do This

Because horses don’t judge—they reflect.

Because rural families deserve access to quality services.

Because young people need a place to feel safe, heard, and strong.

Because healing isn’t always found in a clinic. Sometimes, it’s found in a saddle.
